Give the priceless gift of time

Our clients benefit a great deal from the knowledge, experience and expertise of volunteers. And we couldn’t run our charity shop, the Cairn Centre in Kirkcaldy, without the kind people who generously donate their time.

Volunteering in our shop will give you retail experience and immense rewards in seeing exactly how Trust in Fife helps local people.

We’re also looking for help behind the scenes and out on the road to assist drivers running our collection and delivery service.

If you’re looking for an immensely rewarding use of your time, you can apply here. And if you need encouragement to join us, perhaps it’s best to hear directly from some of our invaluable volunteers.

Our volunteers tell their stories

Bill’s story:

“When a change in personal circumstances left me with a lot more spare time I looked for a charitable and rewarding way to spend it. I visited a good few charity shops and Trust in Fife’s Cairn Centre was exactly what I’d hoped to find.

All the staff are so friendly, helpful truly compassionate. I’ve loved meeting new people, especially local customers who really benefit from the charity. And perhaps best of all is seeing how the donations directly benefit local people who need it most.

On a personal level I get a lot in return for my time. Working for Trust in Fife has benefitted my mood, my mental wellbeing and kept me active and occupied. I’ve even gained a new qualification - a Portable Appliance Testing certificate.

Seeing a local charity help local people really lifts me. And I enjoy a great rapport with other customers and fellow volunteers.

Put simply, volunteering does a lot of good and makes me feel good.”

Jane’s story:

“I have an ambition of becoming a counsellor and wanted a confidence boost to help me along the way. That’s just one of the reasons I became a volunteer with the Cairn Centre.

Working there has not just given me renewed confidence but a new structure and routine to my week, valuable experience and a great deal of satisfaction in seeing local homeless people helped in a great many ways.

Winning Trust in Fife’s Volunteer of the Year was a very proud moment and yet another reminder that working here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
